Due 9/27 DIgital Photo

One photo from the Howard Greenberg Gallery that I found to be quite interesting was  “Bathing Beach Before the Thunderstorm” by Martin Munkacsi.  Without even looking at the date, it is obvious that the photo was taken many years ago because of the type of bathing suits that the people in the photo are wearing.  In the photo it looks like a storm is approaching, the sky is dark and cloudy and the ocean is very rough.  One thing that stood out to me in this picture is that even though there is a storm coming, the people are still in the ocean and some of them even look like they are rejoicing by splashing around and throwing their arms in the air.  This seems ironic to me; I live near the beach and whenever a storm is coming there are never people in the ocean and even if there were, the lifeguards would call them out immediately.  This photo also seems to be taken from a distant and somewhat high viewpoint which makes for an interesting angle. I also think it is interesting that he chose to have almost 2/3 of the focus on the sky rather than the beach and people below him.  Overall I found this to be a very eye-catching piece.

Intro Blog - Nicole Cartier

My name is Nicole Cartier, I am a Psychology major with a k-5 education certification.  I really enjoy photography; it is one of my hobbies that I would like to spend more of my free time doing (seriously... I'm not just saying that).  I love to eat all kinds of seafood, my favorite TV show is probably Modern Family or Dexter, My favorite movie is Wedding Crashers, and My favorite book is Shutter Island. I became interested in photography when I was young.  My dad is a Graphic Design teacher at Manchester Township high school, where he incorporates Photoshop and photography into a great deal of his class.  I also took a digital photography class my senior year of high school and absolutely loved it.  Although I love photography, I am not great with knowing types of cameras... I have a Cannon, and I apologize, I'm not positive what exact model it is because I left it at home, but I will have it with me for class on Monday.
This image is one of my favorite photos, mainly because I took it myself.  It was taken about three years ago right before a snow storm.  I think I like this picture so much because it encompasses the glassy ocean which almost seems calming as well as the contrasting storm clouds.  This is also the town where I grew up (Point Pleasant).  I enjoy stop motion photography especially when it comes to waves and water, which is why Clark Little is my favorite photographer.  He mainly does under water and stop motion wave photography which fascinates me, and if it wasn't so expensive I would probably buy an underwater housing for my camera so that I could take photos like he does.

Here is an example of Clark Little photography:
